Parmida Kakavand, known as Päter, creates powerful musical experiences inspired by life's unfolding journeys. Originally from Iran, songwriting became a cherished gift during childhood after relocating to Canada, providing solace during times of alienation.
In 2020, Päter emerged with the debut single "Dam, Damn," which garnered acclaim with over 2.4 million streams. This marked the beginning of the Päterverse, influenced by coming-of-age stories and early musical heroes like The Strokes, Kate Bush, and Mother Mother with a songwriting style that blends complexity and flair, infused with dissonant melodies and harmonies rooted in classical Iranian music.
Päter's debut LP "4-7 Company" delves into the twilight hours between work and social life, a period of introspection and wandering thoughts. Collaborating with Juno-winning producer Howard Redekopp, known for his work with Mother Mother. Teagan and Sara, and The New Pornographers, was a pivotal moment in the creation of "4-7 Company." Inspired during their time in a theater program, the album explores personal struggles with depression and self-doubt, navigating through chaos to find inner peace.
Päter's musical journey has included performances at NXNE 2023 and upcoming features at CMW 2024, with plans to embark on their first tour across Canada, the US, and beyond in summer 2024. Additionally, their self-directed video for "Nicotine Hallelujah," the lead single from "4-7 Company," has been recognized at prestigious film festivals, showcasing Päter's multidimensional artistry.
